Summer Salsa

In mid December we planted tomato and Corn seedlings

We took inspiration from the Ancient Inca's of South America ...and used their 3 sister's planting style of beans climbing golden corn, with our pumpkins at the base.

The final week of March saw our corn and tomatoes ready for harvest...there was really only one way to serve and eat them...salsa style!

We hope you enjoy our video as much as we enjoyed eating our salsa!

Farewell Trent

Term 1 and our endless summer have come to a close, as Autumn announces her arrival with the end of daylight savings...
and so it was that we also had to farewell a special Garden Warrior...
Always one of the first 3 through the garden gate each lunch time, Trent was a driving force behind every aspect of our garden...
...if something needed building, Trent was building it....
...relationships and skills were also being built...
...ever practical, Trent was our go to guy...
...and he immersed himself in every aspect of the garden...
...Trent's problem solving and practical ability far exceeded his years....
...so it was only fitting that he was presented with a special Garden award recognising his contribution...
...and a reference for any future employer, as this Garden Warrior knows how to manage a work site & lead by example!
Trent was very proud to present the Garden Warriors with a lemon tree for next summers Ginger beer brew, he also presented us with a challenge...

he will be starting a school garden at his new Christchurch school and looking to provide some serious competition in this years Tui School Garden Challenge!

Thank you Trent for all your creative and practical input in creating our Westport North Garden, we couldn't have achieved what we have without you
...you have left some VERY BIG work boots for others to fill!

We wish you well "over the hill" in Christchurch Trent, it has been a privilege to work with you.
