Creating Soil:

The Westport North garden Warriors meet every Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes for half an hour of gardening fury...many hands make light work!
An old planter box was salvaged from the dump pile and resurrected by our eager warriors.

Essentially our soil was sand mixed with liquifudge from the last time the Alpine Fault ruptured, nutrient rich it most definitely was NOT! It was with much fascination and discussion that one sack of blood and bone, 3 bags of sheep poop and one bucket of fertiliser was mixed into the upper layer of our raised beds and tyre beds.

Filling the tyres with soil, tricky stuff getting the soil right into the edges! Layers of pea straw were also added, we suspect that some compost would have also gone down well...next year we should have some ready!
